I loved the drive from Invercargill (south of NZ) to Queenstown. The last 50km were along the side of the lake on a road hewn out from the rick face going into the lake. Beautiful, I could feel myself relax all the way along the lake.

In 4 weeks, it may be Beijing & Hong Kong with a 15 month old toddler, but right now it’s any park with a slide.

I think that our Visit to Melbourne in the early 90’s. Our Honeymoon. We saw so many diverse things while there, that we fell in love with it.

Not been able to return so far, but hope to do so soon.

My favourite place is also in New Zealand and its the road around Kaikoura (Sth Island). This is where the alps meet the seas. Look out one side of the car and the Kaikoura Ranges rise majestically from sea level to thousands of feet up with the white virgin snow glistening off the peaks, to looking out the other side of the car at the rugged rocks of the East Coast. Look closely and you will see seals basking in the sun. The only way through the Alps meeting the Sea is tunnels carved through the rock. I remember when we moved from the south island to the north island we drove up this road just as a weather bomb hit. The sea was crashing over the road leaving kelp everywhere. Good fun.

Holland is my favourite holiday destination. Cruising down a water way on Winter Christmas ferry boat being wow’d by the amazing countryside and wildlife.

  • Chris says:

I love Tokyo. Japan is such a culture shock in many ways. Even the Japanese take on many familiar western cultural institutions has its own peculiar stance. In Tokyo there are many different areas. Every time you pop out of a metro station, you could be in a different city. Shopping, electronics, nightclubs – anything you could imagine.

For me, a holiday doesn’t have to be long to provide the necessary respite. It doesn’t have to be far away to be a change of pace. And it doesn’t have to be exotic to take me to a new headspace.

Right now my favourite ‘holiday’ destination is Mt Jerrabomberra, just behind my house. My chosen mode of travel is my two feet, or my bike. I can go with friends, or I can go alone. It’s an hours escape into the bush, with kangaroos and skinks my company along the way and a view of all Canberra and Queanbeyan my reward at the top. I can go almost anytime I want, no notice required, and I always return happier then when I left.

Tell me what you think!
